Glance through all top Android apps and games with Android Excellence

At the yearly Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier this month, Apple introduced a totally revamped App Store that features more editorial content. There are plans for stories about iOS apps, tutorials, reviews, interviews. These new additions are set to complement to the regular postings of curated lists and “app of the day” type features.

With Apple presenting something that was bound to create buzz, how could Google stay behind? In next four days after WWDC, Google announced Android Excellence program, which is its attempt to expand editorial involvement on Google Play.

Android Excellence aims to offer the ability to showcase the highest-quality apps and games on Android on a rotating basis to the editors of Google Play. Just the way, Apple’s “Editor’s Choice” round-ups and highlights new iOS features or presents the best examples of great design, the new “Android Excellence” collections will highlight the sort of apps that Google wants developers to build for its own play store.

Promising “incredible user experiences on Android,” Google said in its announcement that Android Excellence will take advantage of Google‘s best practices. It will have “great design, technical performance, localization, or device optimization.”

Android Excellence will categorize apps into two groups – apps and games. The categories would be visible in a revamped Editors’ Choice section of the Play Store. This section also includes themed round-ups based on some games based on one theme or apps based on similar themes where editors briefly explain why the app was selected for the list.

Also, Android Excellence will grace Android users with its presence much before Apple‘s new App Store that would arrive only with iOS 11.
