Google Drops Instant Search Feature

If you are a seller, you would not sell a product or service that your customers do not like. Same thing is what Google is doing with its “Instant Search feature”. You heard that right. Google is planning to dump the feature that automatically displays search results while users are typing a query in a search bar.

Google spokesperson said:

“We launched Google Instant back in 2010 with the goal to provide users with the information they need as quickly as possible… Since then, many more of our searches happen on mobile, with very different input and interaction and screen constraints. With this in mind, we have decided to remove Google Instant, so we can focus on ways to make Search even faster and more fluid on all devices.”

Currently, once a user starts typing, Google search box displays a list of suggested terms and actual results are displayed for the top suggestion.

Google Instant Search was applicable on Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer 8 and Safari. In 2010, Google launched it after Microsoft‘s rival search engine Bing started offering instant suggestions to online queries at Yahoo.

Hence, in the coming days, users will only see search suggestions while they type their queries. After that, they can click on those suggestions to see the results. Now search results will not load any result pages without clicks on a search suggestion or by the act of user pressing enter.

What is your opinion about Google dropping Instant Search Feature? Is it a good step? Did you ever find it useful? Post your comments.
