Things That Kill Your Smartphone Battery

Today when we plan to buy a smartphone, battery life is an important aspect that we consider before finalizing the phone to buy. Technological advancements have brought many developments to smartphones and we are yet to see advancements enhancing battery life. Even today, charging smartphone every day is a necessity for many.

There are power banks batteries that users can buy as well as phones designed for big batteries. However, that is not enough.

There are things that cause rapid battery drain. Apart from playing games and watching videos, there are things that kill your phone battery. So by regulating some settings, a battery can be made to last longer. These are the following things that consume the battery of phone even when not in use.

  1. Screen brightness:
    The bigger and brighter is your smartphone display, the more it would consume your battery. High-resolution displays consume a lot of battery. Many smartphones offer Adaptive Brightness feature that will make the display of your smartphone, automatically adapt to the lowest amount of brightness that you require. By turning on this feature, battery life can be conserved.
    To save battery life further, it is advised to toggle off the “Ambient display” setting, which will not activate display every time a notification gets received by smartphone.
    Lastly, the easiest way is to change the Sleep settings that would automatically turn off the display of smartphone after duration as per setting if smartphone is not in use.
  2. Background App Refresh:
    The background app refresh feature is there on various smartphones. This feature allows apps to smartly update themselves while they are connected to WiFi or when internet of a smartphone is on. This causes a battery to drain. Users can save battery by turning off automatic updates for apps.
  3. Streaming audio:
    Playing and streaming music or podcasts online from services like Spotify can kill a battery. To save battery, store your favorite songs in your phone and play them.
  4. Bluetooth Usage:
    The way streaming online music drains a battery, connecting a Bluetooth speaker or pair of wireless headphones to a smartphone for playing music also does the same. Users need to use their discretion and decide when the use of Bluetooth is necessary.
  5. GPS:
    GPS and location services consume a lot of battery. Google Maps or Apple Maps are an example. The only solution to this problem is to turn the location off when you are not traveling long distance on an unfamiliar route.
  6. Continuous Internet Browsing:
    Today, various mobile service providers offer various kinds of schemes offering huge internet usage limits and concessional rates for all internet packs. Hence, browsing activities consume a lot of battery. 4G Internet consumes more battery than 2G or 3G.

The solution to this problem is to keep internet off when you are at work. Switch it on when you want to check updates, messages, and other stuff.
